54 When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. 55 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”

57 At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, 58 dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul.

59 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

In a small village surrounded by tall mountains, there was a single lamp that never stopped burning. No matter how strong the wind blew or how heavy the rain fell, the flame remained steady.

One night, a powerful storm swept through the village. Trees fell, rivers overflowed, and houses were destroyed. But when morning came, though everything was in ruins, the lamp was still burning shining as a symbol of light that could not be defeated by darkness.

Ladies and gentlemen, there are moments in history when a single breath, the last breath of a man or woman of God, shakes the heavens and the earth. This is not just about dying; this is about leaving a legacy of faith that no persecution, no fire, no sword can destroy!

I want to take you on a journey through history from the book of Acts to the mountains of Korea. We will see how the last breath of a martyr becomes the first breath of revival.

1. The Last Breath of Stephen (Acts 7:54-60) – A Cry That Opened Heaven

Stephen stood before the council, knowing his words would cost him his life.

In 1866, Robert Jermain Thomas, a Welsh missionary, risked his life to bring the Gospel to Korea, a country that had fiercely opposed Christianity.
1866년, 웨일스 출신의 선교사 로버트 저메인 토마스는 한국에 복음을 전하기 위해 목숨을 걸었습니다. 그 당시 한국은 기독교를 강력히 반대하고 있었습니다.

The Korean government saw Christianity as a threat and ordered his execution.

As the ship he was on burned, Thomas jumped into the water, holding onto Bibles. He was beaten, but instead of crying for mercy, he shouted ‘Jesus, Jesus!’ in Korean!

The Bible that Thomas had risked his life to bring to Korea fell into the hands of one of the men who killed him. This man later became a Christian, and in time, Thomas’ sacrifice planted the seed for the great Korean revival.

3. The Last Breath of the Korean Martyrs – The Fire That Could Not Be Quenched

The 1801, 1839, and 1866 persecutions saw thousands of Korean Christians executed for their faith. They were beheaded, burned, and drowned, but instead of fear, they sang hymns and declared the name of Jesus!

The church in Korea grew because men and women chose to give their last breath for God. Their sacrifice became the catalyst for a mighty move of God that reached millions of souls.
