4 Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. 5 Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah there. 6 When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he performed, they all paid close attention to what he said. 7 For with shrieks, impure spirits came out of many, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. 8 So there was great joy in that city.
9 Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great, 10 and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, “This man is rightly called the Great Power of God.” 11 They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his sorcery. 12 But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 13 Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw.
THE HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE
To fully grasp the power of Philip’s ministry in Samaria, we must understand the historical
background of the Samaritans. The Samaritans were a people despised by the Jews, rejected
for their mixed ancestry and distinct religious practices. Their origins trace back to the Assyrian
conquest of the Northern Kingdom of Israel in 722 B.C. When the Assyrians took the Israelites
into captivity, they resettled foreigners in Samaria, who intermarried with the remaining
Israelites. This mixture resulted in a compromised form of worship, combining elements of
Jewish tradition with pagan influences (2 Kings 17:24-33).
Because of this intermingling, the Jews considered Samaritans unclean and rejected them both
ethnically and religiously. The Jews worshiped in Jerusalem, while the Samaritans built their
own temple on Mount Gerizim and accepted only the first five books of Moses as Scripture.
This deep division led to centuries of hostility between Jews and Samaritans (John 4:9).
Yet Philip went to Samaria and preached Christ alone. He did not preach Jewish customs,
religious laws, or cultural superiority—he preached Jesus. And the power of the Gospel broke
through centuries of division, bringing salvation, healing, and joy to the city (Acts 8:6-8). This
shows that Christ alone is the answer to every division, every prejudice, and every rejection.

The Gospel does not recognize human boundaries; it breaks barriers and builds a new family in
Christ (Ephesians 2:14-16). Today, as in Samaria, the message remains the same—Jesus Christ
alone is the only true answer for every heart, every nation, and every generation.
Prayer: Lord, break every division in our hearts and our communities. Let the Gospel of Jesus
Christ unite what the enemy has scattered. We declare that only Christ reigns in our hearts. In
Jesus’ name, Amen!
CHRIST ALONE HAS THE POWER TO SAVE AND
Philip did not just bring words—he carried the power of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 4:20).
When the Gospel is truly preached, power must follow. The Word of God is living and active
(Hebrews 4:12), and wherever the name of Jesus is lifted, signs and wonders follow (Mark
16:17-18).
Prayer: Father, let the power of Your Gospel be made manifest in our lives. Heal the sick, set
the captives free, and bring salvation to all who hear Your word. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
CHRIST ALONE IS GREATER THAN ANY OTHER
All power must bow before the authority of Jesus Christ. There is no greater name (Philippians
2:9–11). Every other authority—whether spiritual, political, or ideological—must submit to
Jesus.
3
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You alone have all authority. Let every false power bow before You. Rule
and reign in our lives, in our church, and in the nations. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
CONCLUSION: CHRIST ALONE OR NOTHING AT ALL
Jesus is not one of many options—He is the only way (John 14:6). No philosophy, no religion,
no human effort can save (Acts 4:12). The world offers many paths, but only one leads to eternal
life: Christ alone.
Prayer: Father, may we stand firm in Christ alone. Let no distraction, no false teaching, no
worldly philosophy take us away from the truth of Jesus Christ. Keep us rooted in the power of
the gospel. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Shout: Christ alone! /
