The Armor of God

Preacher Pastor Daniel Jung · Date October 25, 2026 · Text Ephesians 6:10-18
Ephesians 6:10-18 (NIV)
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

Reflection

In a world that often feels chaotic and overwhelming, the apostle Paul reminds us that our deepest struggles are not simply with the people or circumstances around us. Writing from prison, he points us beyond the visible to the invisible — to spiritual forces that work against God’s purposes in our lives. The call, then, is not to fear, but to stand firm in the strength that belongs to the Lord himself.

Paul’s image of the Roman soldier’s armor is rich and purposeful. Each piece speaks directly to how God equips his people: truth guards our inner life, righteousness protects our heart, and the gospel of peace steadies every step we take. These are not our own achievements — they are gifts we are invited to receive and put on daily, choosing to live in the reality of what God has already done for us in Christ.

Faith, salvation, and the Word of God complete the picture. The shield of faith quenches every doubt and accusation the enemy throws our way. The helmet of salvation reminds us of who we are and whose we are. And the sword of the Spirit — Scripture itself — is the one offensive weapon in the arsenal, a living word that cuts through darkness and speaks truth into every situation we face.

Paul closes with prayer, and it is no afterthought. Prayer is the atmosphere in which all the armor is worn. To pray in the Spirit, on all occasions, for all the saints, is to stay connected to the Commander. We do not fight alone. We stand together, as one body, alert and interceding for one another until the day of peace fully comes.

We do not fight in our own strength — we stand in the mighty power of the Lord who has already won.
