Multicultural children hold a beautiful yet complex gift: they belong to more than one world.
However, this blessing can sometimes be confusing. Parents often tell me, “My child feels in between, not fully Korean, not fully from our home country.” This identity struggle can also cause fear: Will my child lose their culture? Will they feel rootless? Will they accept themselves?
Let me reassure you with a truth from Scripture: identity is not defined solely by geography or ethnicity but is rooted in Christ. Before your child is Pakistani, Korean, Filipino, African, Indian, or American, they are God’s beloved creation, fearfully and wonderfully made. Multicultural children often show more profound empathy, greater adaptability, and increased global awareness. Their unique story is not a disadvantage; it is divine design. God is shaping them to be bridge-builders, peacemakers, and cross-cultural leaders in a world that needs them. As a church community, we intentionally celebrate every child’s background. We want your children to know: “You are not half of anything; you are fully God’s purpose.” Teach your child their language, yes. Share your culture, yes. But even more, remind them often: “You are created by God, loved by Jesus, and empowered by the Holy Spirit.” This identity will carry them farther than any passport ever could.
